Sometimes you feel like a Nut…

They’re bite-size and nutritional and filled with heart-healthy fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals! The best nuts for your diet are pistachios, almonds and cashews. They are all about equal in terms of calories per ounce, and in moderation, are all healthy additions to your diet

Each nut has a mixture of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and fiber. This mix will help you feel full and suppress your appetite.

Avoid nuts packaged or roasted in oil.

Grilled Chicken Tacos

Chicken thighs are fattier than breasts, which means they're more flavorful; plus, they're less expensive. Put them to work in any fast weeknight preparation, starting with these spiced tacos.

  • 1 medium onion, cut into wedges, keeping root intact
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken thighs
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds, coarsely crushed
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 corn tortillas, warmed (for serving)
  • 2 avocados, sliced (for serving)
  • Tomatillo Salsa Verde
  • Cilantro sprigs, sliced radishes, and lime wedges (for serving)

Prepare grill for medium-high heat. Toss onion, garlic, chicken, cumin, oil, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Grill onion and chicken until cooked through and lightly charred, about 4 minutes per side.

Let chicken rest 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with tortillas, avocados, Tomatillo Salsa Verde, cilantro, radishes, and lime wedges.

Maintenance Tip

Secrets of a professional house cleaner…

  1. The self clean feature of the oven is your friend. Did you know that you can place the stove drip pans in the oven to clean them? Just put them in there before you lock the door. Even if there aren’t any harden spills, use the self cleaning function on a short setting to burn out the grease and odor build up from cooking.
  2. Vinegar is wonderful! Iit can be used for a variety of things; it makes a great glass cleaner and it can be used if you run out of fabric softener. To use as a fabric softener add about 1 & 1/2 cups per load.
  3. To clean high places like ceiling fans and windows above the patio door, use a brush with a handle extension. I personally recommend the ball shaped ones since they are more versatile than the static fiber (artificial feather duster) type. The ball shape will also work great on base boards and the outside of your patio.
  4. Bleach is another very useful chemical. However be very careful and DO NOT mix it with other cleaning products. A 50/50 solution of bleach and water is great as a general disinfectant. It can be used to wipe down counters and bathroom surfaces.
  5. To clean soap scum from shower surrounds first spray them down with your bleach solution then use a little bit of liquid dish detergent on a kitchen sponge to scrub down the shower.
