Blast Some Belly Fat!

Here are a few simple habits that can help you reduce your overall weight.

  • Don’t skip breakfast. It’s a fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It gives you energy and you’ll be less likely to snack during the day.
  • Eliminate sugars. Do you really need that 1 or 2 teaspoons of sugar in your coffee? Or that daily soft drink? Reducing sugar will give you a more steady energy level.
  • Sleep! We all should be getting at least 7 hours of sleep per night. Not only does it rest your body, it is better for your skin and helps prevents wrinkles!
  • Water… 8 glasses of water per day will fill you up, your skin will look and feel softer and when hydrated you burn 30% more calories!
  • Stretch, stretch, stretch… it makes your body feel good and gets your blood pumping!!

Linguini with Herb Broth & Clams

  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 6 garlic cloves, peeled, smashed
  • 2 medium tomatoes, cored, chopped
  • 3 cups dry white wine
  • 1 cup (or more) water
  • 3 pounds Manila clams or small littleneck clams, scrubbed
  • 1/3 cup thinly sliced fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh oregano
  • 2 pinches of dried crushed red pepper
  • 8 ounces linguine

Melt butter with olive oil in heavy large pot over medium heat. Add onions and cook until soft, stirring often, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and stir 1 minute.

Add tomatoes and cook until beginning to soften, stirring often, about 2 minutes. Add white wine and 1 cup water and bring to boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 20 minutes to blend flavors. DO AHEAD: Broth can be made 1 day ahead. Cool slightly, then cover and refrigerate.

Bring broth to boil. Add clams, cover, and cook until clams open, 3 to 5 minutes (discard any clams that do not open). Transfer clams to large bowl; tent with foil to keep warm.

Stir basil, parsley, oregano, and crushed red pepper into broth in pot. Add linguine. Boil until pasta is almost tender but still very firm to bite, stirring often and adding water by tablespoonfuls if too dry.

Return clams with any accumulated juices to pot. Cover and simmer until clams are heated through and pasta is tender but still firm to bite, about 3 minutes longer. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Why Buy Renters Insurance?

Renters' insurance is a liability insurance policy which provides most of the benefits of homeowners’ insurance. The resident’s personal property is covered against named perils such as fire, theft and vandalism. Auston Chase, the owner of the building, is responsible for insuring it, but bears no responsibility for the resident’s belongings.

If a resident damages the premises, the landlord and other residents can recover against the perpetrator's insurance. It is important to know what type of damage your insurance covers. Basically, there are three types of coverage available: loss of use, personal property, and personal liability.

As a renter, you may not think you need insurance. Auston Chase already has insurance on the building, right? We do carry structural insurance on the buildings, but you may not realize that our policy does not cover any of your personal property. What would happen if:

  • Your apartment building burned down?
  • A thief broke into your apartment?
  • A guest slipped and injured himself in your kitchen?
  • The apartment you're renting suffered water damage?
  • Windstorm or Lightning
  • Fire, Smoke or Discharge of Water
  • Vandalism theft or Malicious Mischief
  • Nine other common loss types

Renters Insurance Protects Your Belongings

Too often, people think they don't have enough property to make a renters insurance policy worthwhile. But take a minute to think about what you own, and what can lose, including:

  • Clothing and Jewelry
  • Furniture
  • Television or entertainment system
  • Computer
  • iPod
  • Musical or sporting equipment

Without renters insurance, you have no coverage for personal property loss or damage. Did you know that if a fire in your apartment causes damage (smoke, water, etc.) to other apartments, you are liable for that damage as well as the damage to your apartment?

Just in the past month, two of our sister communities have suffered damage from fire in excess of $30,000 each, the responsibility of which falls to the resident! Fortunately, you can get affordable renters insurance (also called apartment insurance) to help protect you in situations like these.

Maintenance Tip

Fire Safety part 2…

Smoke detectors are your friend!

We all know the scenario, its 2am, you’ve got to work tomorrow, you haven’t been sleeping very well, and it happens…CHIRP!

What was that? Some hypersonic bird that got caught in your apartment and decided that it has to destroy you with its piercing, high pitched call?...

No, it’s your smoke alarm! It’s really very easy to get the alarm to be quiet without pulling it down from the ceiling and stomping on it like your playing a life size game of “whack a mole”. Pulling your smoke alarm down from the ceiling and disconnecting it is not only dangerous, it is against the law.

All you have to do is push the button on the alarm for a second or two to set it into silent mode. This is ok to do until the morning when you need to call the office and have us put in a work order to change the batteries in your detectors.

However, if you are fine with the time of day (or night) and don’t think you can take the chirp or feel confident in pushing the silent button, just call the emergency maintenance line!

A chirping smoke alarm is considered an emergency. Our maintenance department is currently going into every apartment during our filter changes and changing all the batteries in the smoke alarms now.

Air Conditioning

Spring is here, which means consistently warmer temperatures! Please take a moment to switch the system in your home over to a/c to check and make sure it is cooling properly.

If you experience any issues, please let us know so that we can make repairs. Always leave the system turned on to ensure proper air circulation and moisture control.

Family or Friends Coming to Visit

Call now to reserve our fully furnished, two bedroom guest suite for only $85/night! Feel right at home and enjoy all that Auston Chase has to offer… zero-entry pool, 24/7 access to our state-of-the-art fitness center and game room and internet cafe!

The guest suite comes complete with all linens, kitchen utensils and dinnerware, and is equipped with cable and internet access.

Parking Decals

All residents must have a parking decal on their vehicle. If you did not receive one when you moved in or if you have a new vehicle, please come by the office so we can get your vehicle registered.

Also remember that visitors should not be parking directly in front of the buildings. They should be parking in secondary parking.

Thank you!
